Does Choosing Safer Paint Mean Compromising on Quality?

Calm contemporary living room painted with Verus Paint, showing how beautiful colour and thoughtfully formulated paint can create a healthier home.

For years, choosing a healthier paint often meant accepting compromises.

The colour range might have been limited. The finish wasn't always as refined. Coverage could be inconsistent, and durability didn't always match the premium paints people were used to.

So a perception developed that homeowners had to make a choice: beautiful paint or healthier paint. Fortunately, paint technology has come a long way.

What Does High-Quality Paint Really Mean?

Ask someone what makes a paint "high quality" and they'll probably mention things like:

  • Beautiful, carefully curated colours
  • Rich pigmentation
  • Excellent coverage
  • Smooth application
  • A durable finish that stands up to everyday life

And they're absolutely right.

These are the qualities we've traditionally used to judge paint, and they remain incredibly important. But I don't think they're the whole story anymore.

I Think Our Definition of Quality Has Changed

Over the past few years, many of us have become much more conscious about the products we bring into our homes.

We read food labels. We pay more attention to skincare ingredients. We're becoming more thoughtful about the cleaning products we use.

Yet when it comes to paint, many of us still judge quality by one question:

"How well does it cover?"

I think quality means more than that. Let’s start asking some more questions…

·      What's actually in it?

·      Will it leave lingering odours?

·      Is it something I'm happy to use in my children's bedrooms?

·      How does it affect the air we breathe every day?

For me, those questions are just as important as colour, coverage and durability.

Why We Created Verus Paint

When we renovated our own home, we found ourselves asking exactly those questions.

We wanted a paint that looked every bit as beautiful as the premium brands we were drawn to. We wanted rich, timeless colours and a finish that would stand the test of time. But we also wanted to avoid bringing toxins into the spaces where our family would live every day.

When we couldn't find a paint that brought those things together, we decided to create one. That was the beginning of Verus Paint.

It's Time We Redefined Quality

For us, quality has never been about one thing.

It's beautiful, carefully curated colours that feel timeless.

It's exceptional coverage and a finish that lasts.

It's durability that's designed for real family life.

But it's also decorating without lingering paint odours.

It's understanding what's in the products you bring into your home.

It's creating beautiful interiors without compromising on the air your family breathes.

That's why every tin of Verus Paint is:

  • Beautifully pigmented
  • 100% VOC-free
  • 100% toxin-free
  • Completely odourless
  • Free from MIT and BIT preservatives
  • Air-purifying
  • Naturally resistant to mould and bacteria
  • Made to order in the UK

Because to us, that's what quality looks like today.

A Better Choice

I'm realistic enough to know it's impossible to eliminate every unnecessary chemical from our lives.

But when there's an opportunity to make a better choice—without compromising on quality, style or performance—I believe it's one worth making.

That's the philosophy behind Verus Paint. And it's the standard we'll continue to hold ourselves to.
