How to Achieve a Professional Finish with Verus Paint
How to Achieve a Professional Finish with Verus Paint
Giving your home a fresh coat of paint can completely transform your space. Here’s our guide to help you achieve stunning results while making the process as enjoyable as the outcome.
Start with a Clean Slate
Every masterpiece starts with a great foundation, and painting is no exception. Make sure your walls are smooth and clean by removing any loose or flaking material with a scraper or sandpaper. Got holes or cracks? Fill them in with a good-quality filler and sand once dry for a seamless surface. If your walls are glossy, a light sanding will give the paint something to grip onto. Trust us—this little extra effort pays off!
Fresh Plaster? Say Hello to the Mist Coat
Freshly plastered walls are thirsty, so they need a bit of extra care. Enter the mist coat. By diluting Verus Paint with water (a 60:40 ratio works perfectly), you’ll create a mix that soaks into the plaster, forming a strong bond. This simple step prevents peeling or cracking and ensures your topcoat looks flawless. Once the mist coat dries, you’re ready to paint!
Master Your Painting Technique
Before you dive in, give the paint a good stir to ensure the colour and texture are beautifully consistent. Whether you’re a roller fan, prefer a brush, or love a pad, our paint works like a dream with any of them. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Don’t spread the paint too thinly—a little patience goes a long way for an even finish.
- Avoid going over wet areas, as this can lead to streaks or uneven patches.
- Depending on the colour beneath, you might need a second or even third coat for complete coverage.
- Pick the Perfect Painting Weather
Believe it or not, the weather matters when painting. Avoid damp or chilly days below 10°C, as the paint may not dry properly. Typically, your surface will be touch dry in 1-2 hours and ready for another coat in 2-4 hours. Painting radiators? Give them 4-6 hours before recoating.
Clean-Up Made Easy
When the painting is done, it’s time to show your tools some love. Remove any excess paint and wash them in warm, soapy water. This simple step will keep them in great shape for your next project.
If you have some leftover paint you want to keep for touch-ups, we've got a nifty trick to keep your paint fresher for longer. When you re-seal a tin with air in it, mould will soon start to grow. Avoid this by pouring your paint into a clean jar and filling it right to the top to eliminate air. Seal it tightly and store it in a dark, cool place. This method helps prevent mould, especially since Verus Paint is free from toxic preservatives.
Special Tips for Wood
When painting wood with our paint, we have good news! There is no need for primer! Just make sure to seal any knots with a wood sealer to avoid stains.
Painting is more than just a home improvement task—it’s an opportunity to refresh your space and make it truly your own. By preparing surfaces properly, using the right techniques, and caring for your tools, you’ll achieve a finish that’s not only professional but something to be proud of. Happy painting!
